Holy buckets, its almost August already! Where has the time gone? I feel like just yesterday I was moving back to Iowa and wondering how I would adapt to a new life, and here we are, 3 months later. I am settled into my new job, I have a yoga studio and climbing gym I go to, we have nearly regular date-night extravaganzas and my wedding is 5 weeks away. ummmm…….
It’s too fast! The busier I get, the harder it is to stop and enjoy life. It seems so easy to get caught up and distracted. I forget sometimes to do something for myself and I have to reel myself back in. I have to consciously think about what I was grateful for this past week and how enjoyable those moments of gratitude were.
Let’s preface these snapshots of my life by explaining that Iowa had a serious heat wave last week. It was 105 degrees for a few days, with like 80 percent humidity. And no, that is not an exaggeration. It was the kind of hot that hits your skin and condensates because your actual body temperature is less than that of the air…..super comfortable.
However, I did not! let that get me down.
Next time you are in the Des Moines area, try to catch a show at Wooly’s. It is a small, standing-room only music venue that holds about 700 people. It gets pretty intimate. And smelly. Especially in a heat wave. But alas, we powered through and saw the best Andrew McMahon show we have seen yet. I adore him and his music. It was well worth the stinky bodies and required 3rd shower of the day for me.
Hubs and I spent the weekend at his family reunion and coincidentally, found ourselves in his hometown at the same time as one of my bridesmaids and best friend since elementary school. We had a lovely impromptu night enjoying drinks on the patio of the only good restaurant in Clinton, IA- Candlelight Inn. I say good very loosely, given my foodie-nature and desire of non-deep-fried food….however, they do make a mean $2 margarita and that is good enough for me! Its always nice to surprise yourself with fun plans to decompress from the work-week.
Given the heat wave, I also spent a lot of time inside with our pups, giving them lots of snuggles while I read on the couch or did my to-do list. Here’s a couple happy snuggle pics to brighten your day 🙂
